What The Market Overlooks

What The Market Overlooks

Most horses are bought on pedigree and demand.
We focus on where the market gets it wrong.

A different starting point

A different starting point

Most decisions in the sales ring are made quickly.

Buyers are working through hundreds of horses, balancing pedigree, physical impression, and auction momentum. Prices are often shaped as much by competition as by underlying ability.

We approach it differently. Before the sale, we narrow the field using our data. At the sale, each horse is assessed in person to understand how it matches or diverges from that view.

Sometimes the physical confirms the profile. Sometimes it explains why the market may overlook it.

A late foal. A family that improves with time. A horse that doesn’t present perfectly in a fast-moving environment.

That’s where judgement matters.

SIRE & DAM RATINGS

The market tends to price the sire. Value is often in the dam.The sire drives demand. The dam is less visible, and where pricing can diverge from reality.

INTERNAL VALUATION

We start with a valuation before the auction begins. Every horse is assessed using pedigree, physical profile, and comparable sales. We don’t adjust it once bidding starts.

STRIDE DATA & SECTIONALS

Finishing position hides as much as it reveals.Stride and sectional data separates inherent ability from circumstance, particularly in horses in training sales where results can mislead.

TRAINER PLACEMENT

The same horse can perform very differently in different yards. We analyse how trainers perform with specific profiles, placing horses where they are most likely to improve.

RACETRACK FIT

Different tracks reward different running styles. We match stride and running style to course layouts, targeting races that suit the horse.

RACE PLANNING

A season is planned, not pieced together. Entries and progression are mapped to maximise longevity and outcomes, not just to get a run on the board.

DATA DOES'T WORK ALONE

DATA DOES'T WORK ALONE

A model can identify potential. It can't see a horse move. It can't assess temperament, conformation, or soundness. The best bloodstock judges in this market do that brilliantly, and we don't pretend data replaces it.

Every horse that passes our data filters is physically assessed by our bloodstock partner, a stud farm operator with a track record of producing multiple group winners.

His team do the work that models can't: confirming the horse matches what the data suggests.
